B2B LinkedIn headline optimization — write for buyers, not recruiters

If you sell, consult or run a B2B company, your headline is a one-line pitch that appears every time you post, comment or send a message. Here’s how to make it work for prospects — with 30+ examples.

How a B2B headline differs from a job-seeker headline

Job-seeker headlineB2B / social-selling headline
Main readerRecruitersBuyers, prospects, partners
Leads withJob titleWho you help and the outcome
KeywordsTitle, skills, toolsCustomer segment, problem, industry, your category
ProofResults, credentialsCustomer results, logos, numbers
Where it works hardestRecruiter searchUnder your name on posts, comments and DMs

A prospect who sees “Account Executive at Acme” under your comment learns nothing useful. A prospect who sees “Helping logistics teams cut freight costs 15% | Fleet analytics” immediately knows whether you're relevant to them.

The B2B headline formula

I help [ideal customer] [achieve outcome] with [your solution or method] | [proof] | [role or company]

  • Ideal customer: be specific — “Series A SaaS founders”, “mid-market CFOs”, “dental clinics”. Specific beats broad.
  • Outcome: what changes for them — more pipeline, lower churn, faster closes, fewer compliance risks.
  • Method or category: the searchable part — “RevOps”, “HubSpot implementation”, “fractional CFO”.
  • Proof: a number, a recognisable client type or a credential.
  • Keep the first ~60 characters self-explanatory — that's all prospects see under your comments.

B2B headline optimization tips

  • Match your headline to the profile it leads to. If your headline promises “cut freight costs 15%”, your About and Featured section should prove it.
  • Use your buyer's words, not your product jargon. Write “reduce churn”, not “AI-native retention orchestration”.
  • Keep one searchable category term. Buyers also search LinkedIn — “fractional CFO”, “Salesforce consultant”, “cybersecurity sales”.
  • Avoid aggressive CTAs. “DM me for a demo!” in a headline reads as spam. A soft line like “Hiring engineers” or “Open to partnerships” is fine.
  • Test it. Change one thing, keep it for a month and watch profile views and connection acceptance rate.

FAQ

Lead with who you help and the outcome, then your category and a proof point — e.g. “Helping manufacturers reduce downtime 20%+ with predictive maintenance | Enterprise AE | Industrial IoT”. That works better with prospects than a job title alone.
Yes, but add what the company does and for whom. “Founder & CEO, Ledgerly | Automated bookkeeping for e-commerce brands” tells prospects, investors and candidates why they should care.
For B2B, consulting and freelance profiles, “I help [customer] [achieve outcome]” is clear and effective. For job seekers, leading with the target job title usually works better because recruiters search by title.
Up to 220 characters is allowed. Make the first ~60 characters a complete idea, because that is what prospects see under your posts and comments, then add category keywords and proof.
Include it if it is well known in your market or you are the founder. Otherwise, the space is usually better spent on your customer, outcome and proof — your company already appears in your Experience section.
